What an eligible booking includes

American Express currently lists daily breakfast for two, a property-specific US$100 credit toward eligible charges, complimentary Wi-Fi, guaranteed 4 p.m. checkout, noon check-in when available, and a room upgrade when available. Eligibility and property terms apply.

The comparison that matters

Do not compare only the headline room price. Compare like with like: the same room, dates, occupancy, taxes, resort fees, cancellation rules, and breakfast inclusion.

  • FHR total rate, including taxes and property fees
  • Best flexible direct rate
  • Breakfast value you would otherwise pay
  • Property credit value you will actually use
  • Value of guaranteed 4 p.m. checkout to this itinerary
  • Any loyalty earnings or status benefits confirmed for the stay

Value uncertain benefits at zero

An upgrade that is merely possible is not part of the guaranteed value. The same applies to early check-in. Treat either as a lovely surprise, not as justification for paying a large premium.

When FHR tends to shine

Short stays can concentrate the value of the property credit and breakfast. Late checkout matters most when you have an evening departure. FHR is less compelling when the direct rate is materially lower, breakfast is already included, or you cannot use the property credit naturally.

One last check

Ask the hotel how the property credit can be used, whether taxes or gratuities are excluded, and how loyalty benefits are handled. Save the benefit summary shown at booking; the applicable property terms are the final word.
